Rottweilers Pictures - Description
Rottweilers are medium sized, robust and sturdy. The coat is coarse and not too long. It is about 90% black with clearly defined deep brown or mahogany markings. The markings must be properly distributed, in accordance with the Official Standard.
There must be spots over the eyes and on the cheeks. The sides of the muzzle, except for the bridge of the nose, are also marked. Prosternum must have a triangular marking on both sides. Front legs are marked on the front side and hind legs on both sides. The Rottweiler body is highly proportionate; front and hind legs should be at a certain angle relative to the ground.
Rottweilers are famous for their light and effortless gait, which can display their high driving capability and unimposing character. Rottweilers are naturally eager to follow their masters in household activities and hard work, which makes them perfect companions. They never make 'hasty decisions' in choosing friends and they can be aloof and reserved.

Rottweilers Pictures - History Tip
Rottweilers go as far back as to the times of ancient Romans. Their predecessors were cattle driving dogs. The Romans also kept them for the guarding of property and often used them as watchdogs. The dogs accompanied legions in military campaigns. After one of such campaigns, the Romans settled near the city of Rottweil, in Southern Germany, where the dogs were crossbred with the local shepherd dog and the Mastiff. The hybrid of the two is nowadays referred to as Rottweilers.
